If you are an MBTF member between the ages of 18-29 and have attended at least one meeting, you can direct $1000 per year to charitable causes.
Approach a member of MBTF to mentor you through the process.
Pick a charity or pick a need that interests you and find a charity which tries to address that need.
Verify that the agency is a 501(c)(3) charity in 1 of 2 ways: Find the 501(c)(3) letter on their website or email them for it. Print the proof and attach it to your form submission.
Fill out the “member discretionary grant” form and submit it to Tracy by November 1st.
Fill out a form for each charity you choose. The minimum discretionary grant is $100, the total maximum amount is $1,000. You may request $100 ten times, or $1,000 once, or however you’d prefer.
At the next meeting you attend, give a brief verbal report summarizing the donation (or donations).
The annual amount available does not carry over to the next year.
FYI:
You cannot use MBTF funds to fulfill a personal pledge. If you call into the fundraising telethon & promise them $500, that’s a personal pledge which MBTF cannot fulfill for you.
MBTF cannot give to anything related to a particular political party; it cannot buy tickets to a charity dinner/event; and it cannot be used to build up the principal for your friend’s foundation. MBTF also cannot give money to a charity that employs you or your immediate family members, and it can’t give to a charity that is so new & small that our gift would be its entire income for the year. Also, you nor your spouse can work or intern for the organization. So if you think you might intern at that charity in the future, then don’t use MBTF funds.
If you have any questions, call or text Tracy, 410-310-2986, contact the chair of the Grants Review Committee, get a seasoned member to mentor you, or bring your questions to the MBTF meeting.
