*If you get a free account at guidestar, you can also look at the charity’s tax returns, which can be interesting as to how much they pay executives, who is on the board, how much they make or lose each year, and how much money they have in the bank. Guidestar can probably help you identify charities that deal with specific areas like world health or water pollution in New York state.
